About us

A gospel to entrust ¦ a church to empower ¦ a world to engage

E3 Initiative wants to see grassroots churches in the majority world empowered to transform their communities.

To make that happen, E3 is working with local partners to entrust the gospel to pastors through training (Entrust programme) and to support churches as they engage with the critical issues in their communities – especially as they respond to HIV and AIDS (EngageHIV programme).

We believe that local churches are central to God's purposes and best-placed to meet local needs because they understand the issues first-hand and can offer long-term sustainable solutions. Members are motivated and committed to serving the community and responding to practical, emotional and spiritual needs, as they share the love of Christ in word and deed.

Although E3 is involved directly in training and intervention through its staff, board and associates, we work primarily through relationships with local partners who share our vision. We support them through funding, prayer, visits, ideas, resources and insights from other E3 partner projects. Drawing on E3’s own experiences of working in a grassroots context, our grant application process and subsequent monitoring and evaluation process, is transparent, straightforward and designed to guide and shape project development.

E3, as a small organisation, is able to connect at the grassroots with small organisations and churches. We develop strong and lasting relationships with our partners, some of whom we have partnered with for over a decade. We are unashamedly Christian and work with partners whose activities are holistic in reaching people in practical and spiritual ways: we aim to encourage the training of leaders, not only in aspects of community development, but also in the knowledge, attitudes and skills that are needed to build churches that are enduring and that will genuinely transform communities.

The name "E3 Initiative" is inspired by Ephesians 3, which explains how the local church is central in God's mission: "His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known..." (Eph 3:10). E3 also stands for 'entrust, engage and empower', because while E3 has two programmes – Entrust pastor training and EngageHIV – our purpose is to empower churches in mission.

While most of our partners are in sub-Saharan Africa, we also support projects in other parts of the so-called 'developing world', with partners in Asia and Latin America.

“The change is in the way I relate to people, even those who are not born again or don’t go to church. Before I would have just been doing spiritual things, but now my ministry is more satisfying”. Pastor Mburu attended Centre for Urban Mission training and his church is now reaching young people, women and orphans and vulnerable children
