Local Churches: agents of change
When it comes to responding to a world in need, E3
Initiative believes that local churches make up the most
effective and widespread grassroots organisation in
existence.
Healthy church communities are part of local communities and
understand and experience the realities themselves. They are
never isolated or untouched by the effects of poverty. Through the
relationships they have in place and the hope and love inspired by
their faith in Christ, they are able and willing to share the little they
have with others – they want to make a difference.
In 2011, we saw this belief confirmed time and again in the
communities in which our partner churches and organisations serve.
There is so much for which to give thanks, and so much more
potential for growth, as increasing numbers of churches come to
understand how they can be agents of change and take practical
steps to make this a reality. In this review, you will read some of the
stories that illustrate this, as churches seek to honour God in their
communities.
As E3 seeks to empower grassroots churches to transform their
communities, raising prayer and financial support for our partners
on the ground is crucial. In a challenging fundraising climate, 2011
was a year in which we saw a small decrease in the non-trustee
donations. Nonetheless, we continue to deepen our support of
current organisation partners and look for new ones. Always our goal
is to give even more churches the opportunities to be trained and
empowered and bring lasting change to people facing the effects of
HIV and poverty.
