Boniface’s story
... finding a place of refuge and love
Pastor Seth attended the first course run by the Centre for Urban Mission in Nairobi. The course transformed his thinking and outlook on HIV and AIDS and those who are infected. A few weeks after he finished the course, Pastor Seth met Boniface.
Boniface responded to an evangelistic appeal at the end of a rally organised by Pastor Seth. Nervously, and half-expecting to be rejected, Boniface told Pastor Seth that he was HIV-positive.
Over recent months, Boniface, who is without a home of his own, has been chased out of the homes of many of his former friends as they’ve come to know his HIV status. However, Boniface has joined Pastor Seth’s church and has been accepted and helped by the congregation. The church is small and has about 40 members whose average income is less than $1 a day per person. Nevertheless, they’ve pooled resources and bought Boniface a few items of clothing and a mattress to sleep on.
With Pastor Seth’s help, Boniface is growing as a Christian and has secured enough funds to start a business selling charcoal and paraffin.
