final update from Fikelela

Fikelela Children's Centre began in June 2001 as an emergency foster home for abandoned children. This was linked to a foster programme so that children, who could not return to the care of their own families or relatives, could be placed with foster families. This work continues today and is an initiative of the Cape Town diocese of the Anglican Church.

iThemba partnered with Fikelela from 2003 to 2007, supporting their nurse’s salary. Here is the update we received in Fikelela's final report to iThemba.

"We have been developing an outreach programme from the Fikelela Children's Centre to support orphans and children with terminally sick mothers. This means that rather than the child being taken into care, our child-care worker, Siphokazi, provides support and care for the child in their own home. This development allows us to reach and serve more children than we can provide homes for at our Centre. This has been a big challenge but an exciting step forward for our ministry as God keeps blessing us with ways to reach more children who are in need."
