Newfrontier Aid Trust
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa
Newfrontier Aid Trust (NAT) works to mobilise churches and schools to respond to the HIV and AIDS pandemic, supporting them and the individuals who are part of those organisations.
NAT works closely with another iThemba partner, the Community Care Project (CCP), also based in Pietermaritzburg. CCP has seen how volunteers and caregivers in HIV and AIDS projects carry a heavy burden. Many caregivers give their all to the families they are working with – often when their own families actually need help. The burden can be eased by increasing the number of caregivers and ensuring that they also receive the support they need.
Over the next 3 years, NAT plan to target 30 local churches and 15 local schools. In this way, 200 new caregivers will be recruited, equipped and supported in their work – and 200 selected students will act as role models and mentors within the schools. A key focus of NAT's work will be to ensure that the caregivers and students are supported themselves – practically, emotionally and spiritually. They will work closely with Community Care Project as they put their plans into action.
